Principles of long term investing, compounding and dollar cost averaging
Earn a better yield by investing in equities
Reduce risk by investing for the long term in a low cost, diversified fund
How to access information from the SGX website
How to get information about ETFs, REITS and blue chip shares (with high dividend yield)
How to open an account with a stockbroker (using a remisier or an online account)
Expenses of investing

There will be practical exercises and a question & answer session.

Profile of speakers:

Mr. Chan Ruo Hui

Ruo Hui started in the brokerage, Phillip Securities as a Management Trainee. The start there exposed him to the need to save and invest.

Experience gained from being a bank call centre officer and wealth advisor with Standard Chartered Bank and CIMB respectively made him realise the necessity of financial education.

With more than 10 years investing experience, he is always seeking to learn and explore ways to improve as an investor.

He believes that through a portfolio of different index funds, ETFs and the buying of shares through value investing will enable an investor to prepare for their retirement and attain financial freedom.

Mr Tan Kin Lian

Mr. Tan Kin Lian started his insurance career in 1966 in a local life insurance company. He qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in 1975. He joined NTUC Income in 1977 as the chief executive officer.

During a period of 30 years, he built up the business, assets and sphere of influence. From a base of $28 million, the total assets increased to over $17 billion as the time of his retirement on 1 March 2008. NTUC Income is a leading life and general insurance co-operative in Singapore.

He has written several books on puzzles to train your mind. He is also the author of “A Practical Guide on Financial Planning”. He is now the President of the Financial Services Consumer Association (FISCA), a non-profit organization formed in Singapore with the aim of educating the public on financial planning and related matters.
